The Suppliants by Aeschylus Director: Dominic Yeates Assistant Directors: Heather Loomes and Sara West Tuesday 13th - Friday 16th November at 7.30pm If the scholars' reading of the papyrus is correct The Suppliants was first performed in 463BCE. The play is one of the most strangely beautiful of all Greek tragedies, rich and suggestive out of all proportion to its brevity. It is about helplessness, need and what it means to stand up for those who are defenceless. Venue: A site specific performance Please be advised that this production takes place outside with limited cover. It is essential that audience members are dressed appropriately. There will be both seating and standing opportunities for the audience. Some warm food and drink will also be provided as part of this production and this is included in the ticket price. The Accrington Pals by Peter Whelan Director: Edward Applewhite Tuesday 20 - Thursday 22 November at 7.30pm Friday 23 November at 2.00pm Set in Accrington, Lancashire during 1914 - 16, the 'Pals' are the men from the local volunteer battalion who march high-spiritedly off to the Great War with the experiences in the trenches contrasted with those of the women left behind. Premiered by the RSC in 1981, this play; funny, at times sad, paints a moving and powerful picture of the changes in civilian life during wartime.
